Memories of the Peraltan Staff, the 1963-'64 Basketball Team and more....

Hey everyone,

Here are some blasts from the past....our Peraltan Staff, headed by John Zugnoni and our 1963-'64 season Basketball Team with our lead guy Marc Jamison and our ever favorite coach Hugh Louderback.

The Peraltan staff did a wonderful job on our periodic paper as well as the Yearbook. John Zugnoni, John Robertson, Michael Oborne, Ken Cardwell (a Jr) and assisted by Tm Turner (not pictured). John Lineweaver, Brian McGuire, Bob San Souci, Bob Ternes (now a Physician in PA; staff photography), Steve Westervelt (staff photography) Paul Tuyrpin Jr), John Rengel (Jr). George Bevan (Jr), Larry Gaber (Jr), George Grey, Mark Jenkins (Jr), Tom Larkin (Jr).  I am able to upload all these tidbts of our Senior Year because of these guys....they provided the history pictures!!  Pictures of our Peraltan Seniors are below.

The Basketball team had a year where there were great wins and those last second losses.... The basketball game that I will always remember is a CAL playoff game at the Univ of San Francisco against St Liz....Ohhh do I remember ...it went back and forth and then overtime....and I remember a last second shot by Larry Casey from the far right corner of the court ....swish! ....we tied and went into overtime...again!....we did lose but not without that St Mary's spirit and a great show of athleticism that I will never forget!

The Basketball Team photo is missing Phil Wanlin who was probably distracted with those final football games (he is in photo #2 with fellow Seniors John Marion, Marc Jamison, and Greg Watts, (Bill Sapenter,a Jr is also pictured) ...the last football against that formidable foe the Bellarmine Bells .... was at home....and I remember them walking onto the field three-by-three and like a well oiled machine...such intimidation and they looked everyone was 8 feel tall & 250 lbs ...everyone of them....they were #1 in the State that year and we were their last game....we lost badly but we never gave up......that is my memory!!

Does anyone remember the St Francis football game for our Fall Festival where we were the heavy underdogs?  We lost that game 7-6 after an incredible goal line stand ...St Francis had the top player in Calif that year (Tim Rossovich, '64 former USC football star and 1st round Pro pick in 1968) who was one of their ends and he did the extra point kicks as well.  We scored first and we just did not have a good kicker so just 6 points....we held St Francis scoreless to the last minutes and after they scored EVERYONE knew their best player would kick the winning point.  We were not going to let that happen and they knew we would rush and stop it....we knew we could too...they set up to do the kick for the winning point and ...the hike....our rush was incredible ...a knife through butter...the kick WOULD NOT BE GOOD....and then they passed it to the other end and scored the one point.....they outfoxed us.......we were Lanced by the Lancers.  While our football team was touted at the beginning of the season as "the team to beat" we beat ourselves mostly with overaggresive play, penalties, and just simple mistakes.  We thought the world of our coaches Gene Pisenti and Bob Dold  - they did their job!    They taught us what it meant to play for this school, how school spirit does work, and how we can serve our student body.
